Established in
1971, the Grand Rapids Ballet Company is the only
professional ballet company in Michigan. It is a performing arts organization as
well as a reputable ballet school, with graduates performing with the New York
City Ballet, Ballet West, and the San Francisco Ballet.
The Grand Rapids Ballet is also committed to dance creation and presentation,
and in the 1999-2000 season, they designed and performed nine world premiere
ballets! They have three major productions each season, dancing to the music of
the Grand Rapids Symphony at DeVos Hall. Their West Michigan audience totals
more than 20,000, and they reach another 8,000 through tours.
The Ballet’s most recent fundraising campaign totaled $2.3 million,
providing them with a 20,000 sq. ft. building that offers rehearsal and
performance space, additional dance studios, student and professional dressing
rooms, a therapy room, a costume shop, and office and public gathering areas.
There are plans to double the size of the existing facility by erecting a
