Theatres

With 96 movie screens and almost 25,000 theater seats in Kent County, you're bound to be able to find a film or play you like and a seat to enjoy it in.
The Civic Theatre, now celebrating its 77th season is one of the oldest community theatres in the country. With more than 6,000 season ticket holders, it is the largest community theatre in the state of Michigan and the second largest in the United States. During a single season, the theatre reaches almost 100,000 people. Each season, there are six main stage productions, two productions for children, and various other special events around the community. The theatre is currently under the leadership of 12 professional staff, more than 30 guest artists, and numerous local volunteers.
Expansion was the name of the game in 1999 and 2000.  Jack Loeks Theatres, which owns and operates Studio 28, opened its 18 screen theater, including an IMAX screen, on East Beltline Avenue across from the Knapp's Corner Meijer Store.  Cinemark USA, the sixth largest theater operator in North America has opened its 20-screen theater in Grandville at RiverTown Crossings Mall.
