The City of East Grand Rapids is located only 10 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids. Excellent schools are within walking distance of most residences. The city provides public services such as a library, fire department and a police department. The heart of East Grand Rapids is Gaslight Village, which houses many businesses, shops and fishing on Reed's Lake. East Grand Rapids, with its tree-lined streets boasts some of the finest homes    in    the    Grand    Rapids    area.

Architectural styles  are  diverse,  offering quaint bungalows to grand manors and estate-size parcels. The homes are older and stately with no new construction. Collins Park, on Reed's Lake has undergone a $617,000 renovation. Additions to the park include brick walking paths, a plaza performance area, and permanent restrooms. A stone seawall was added to preserve the park, as several feet of the shore have already been lost to the lake. Boaters benefit from a large "skid pier" that is put into place during boating season. The East Grand Rapids High School Crew Team is pleased to have a new boathouse. Amenities that previously existed in the park, such as the memorial benches remain.
